New legislation makes “ghost guns” illegal in Illinois. Ghost guns are often built from kits you can buy online without a background check, or with a 3-d printer. The problem is, they don’t have a serial number and are being used more often to commit crimes says Chicago Representative Cam Buckner. Buckner’s bill makes it illegal to manufacture, sell or possess a ghost gun, although it does set up a system for someone wanting to get a serial number for their gun so they can be in compliance with state law. He says he’d like to get this passed before the Spring Legislative Session is scheduled to adjourn next month.
