The Illinois Fire Marshal’s office is providing tips to residents who are trying to stay warm during the winter season. Spokesman JC Fultz says to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly. Other reminders include having your furnace serviced and the chimney cleaned regularly. Fultz adds that space heaters should be plugged directly into an outlet and not an extension cord.
