Illinois officials are reminding residents of a few new laws that are in effect after the New Year’s celebration this weekend. The state’s minimum wage is increasing to 12-dollars-per-hour on the first of the year. Also someone seeking medical help for an opioid overdose will be immune to prosecution for possession of the afflicting drug. And public school students are now given up to five days of excused absences for mental or behavioral health without a required medical note.
