City crews are performing watermain failure repair work in the 300 block of East Pershing Road which got under way Friday, November 12th.
This work will has caused the closure of the 2 eastbound lanes between Water Street and Martin Luther King Jr Drive and will continue to approximately 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 19th. Motorist should slow down, use extreme caution and are encouraged to seek an alternate route around the work zone.
Work continues on the demolition of the old Walrus Manufacturing building located at 650 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. As a result, the City of Decatur closed MLK a block north and a block south of this location due to falling bricks in the road way. The demolition of the building will continue until the building is no longer a public safety hazard for the community.
Due to the height of this historic building and its close proximity to the rights of ways, the roadways in this area will remain closed until the building no longer poses a risk for the general public walking or driving in the area.
Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the closure of Illinois 32 a half-mile south of Lovington in Moultrie County is now under way as of today, Monday, Nov. 15th.
The work involves upgrading the capacity of a box culvert. A detour using Illinois 133, Cadwell Road and Illinois 121 will be posted. Work is expected to be completed by Nov. 24, weather permitting.
