At 3:14 PM Tuesday, Decatur Police were dispatched to Water and Mound reference shots fired. Responding officers found a 32-year-old male Decatur resident, who had been driving a vehicle in the area, suffering from life-threatening wounds to the neck. Other motorists had stopped and were rendering aid to the victim. Witnesses describe a male passenger in a gray minivan opening fire on the vehicle the victim had been driving. The minivan fled the area and the victim’s vehicle crashed into another vehicle occupied by a 34-year-old female Warrensburg resident and her children, 6 and 9 years of age. The occupants of that vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
The shooting victim was transported to DMH where he remains in critical condition. The shooting does not appear to have been a random act. The investigation into this incident continues, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Detective Bureau at 217-424-2734 or Crimestoppers at 217-423-TIPS.
