A civil rights leader is joining Jelani Day’s mother in a call for further investigation into her son’s death. Autopsy results released yesterday indicate that Day drowned, but do not cover how the ISU graduate student ended up in The Illinois River. Reverend Jesse Jackson and members of the Rainbow Push Coalition spoke out about the results last night during a talk with Illinois State University’s Black Student Union. Jackson along with Day’s loved ones say it is important to get at the root of Day’s death, with Jackson calling the 25-year-old’s death a murder.
