Governor JB Pritzker is making his policy on COVID-19 vaccinations and testing at licensed day cares clear. Pritzker announced Friday that workers in licensed day care centers must get COVID-19 vaccinations or submit to weekly testing to help limit the spread of the virus. Officials say the decision impacts over 55-thousand staff statewide. Pritzker says vaccinations “make the community safer” for people who can’t get the vaccine, including babies and toddlers served at the centers. The deadline for receiving the first dose is December 3rd.
Republican women in the Illinois Senate meanwhile say the governor’s most recent executive order for day care workers at the state’s licensed daycares to be vaccinated or tested regularly for COVID-19 will further exacerbate care shortages, making it difficult for parents to get back to work. Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued the mandate for full vaccination by Jan. 3. The GOP women say the move is shortsighted and will diminish the already limited and sparse availability.
