Legislative hearings on redistricting are getting underway. An Illinois House committee held its first legislative hearing on the topic, it lasted less than half an hour. Congressional maps must be redrawn every ten years using Census data. The 2020 Census recorded a population drop in Illinois of over 18-thousand people. The population decline means Illinois is losing one seat in Congress, dropping down to 17 representatives.
