Pumpkin growers in Illinois are running into a big problem this year. The state reportedly produces about 80 to 90-percent of the pumpkins in the U.S. Although the fields are filled with them, officials say there have been problems with fungus growing on the vine. It’s a disease that causes pumpkins to rot prematurely. This has many concerned of a potential shortage. The Illinois Specialty Grower’s Association executive director says shoppers will notice it most at the grocery store, since there won’t be as much canned pumpkin lining the shelves.
