Millikin University will be hosting a hybrid 2021 Homecoming Celebration during the weekend of Oct. 1-3, 2021, that will include both in-person and virtual events.
This year’s Homecoming theme, Big Blue Rewind, invites guests to turn back time, reconnect with friends and celebrate their shared history of Millikin.
Millikin’s annual Chalk the Walk will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the walkways around Shilling Hall on Millikin’s campus.
On Friday, Oct. 1, Alumni Award recipients will be honored at a celebratory dinner and program in the Bob and Debi Johnston Banquet Rooms on the 3rd floor of the University Commons from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This year’s honorees are:
- Merit-Loyalty Award: Dick Dechert ’54 and Marilyn Trainer Dechert ’55
- Alumnus of the Year: C. Thomas Harrington ’70
- Merit Award: Sir Edward “Kidd” Jordan ’67
- Faculty/Staff Award: Dr. Ngozi Onuora
- Young Alumnus Award: Angela Osborne ’09
- Loyalty Award: Randall Rentfro ’78
During the evening hours on Oct. 1, Millikin will host an Alumni Band Concert in Kirkland Fine Arts Center from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Guests can join the Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Alumni Band for a free one-hour concert celebrating Millikin’s rich musical tradition and a joyous return to in-person music making.
On Saturday, Oct. 2, Millikin’s Homecoming Parade will kick off at 11:30 a.m. on Main Street near campus. The Big Blue Football team will then take on Carthage College at 1 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
On Sunday, Oct. 3, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Brunch, held in the Bob and Debi Johnston Banquets Rooms in the University Commons beginning at 12 noon. This year’s inductees are:
- Track and field, cross country and men’s basketball player Donald Hartlaub ’73
- Golfer Wes Hillen ’13
- Women’s volleyball player Audrey Krajec ’15
- Football player Matt Snyder ’92
- Softball and women’s volleyball player Alyssa Visvardis ’16
