New Illinois laws are affecting mental health services in the state. Governor Pritzker signed a pair of laws yesterday, including one that will require medically needed mental healthcare to be covered by insurance. The other will create a coordinated effort by first responders to provide those they encounter with access to mental health services when needed. The object of coordination is to reduce arrests of those with mental illnesses and refer them to appropriate services.
