On Friday, August 27, 2021 at approximately 1:55am Macon County Deputies were sent to the area of JB’s Hideout on Illinois Route 48 in Blue Mound. Area residents calling 911 reported that they had heard multiple shots fired behind that location.
Upon arrival of Macon County Deputies it was discovered that a 64 year old male was sitting on a piece of excavating equipment indiscriminately firing at the back portion of JB’s Hideout and into the air. Deputies secured the area and was able to surround the individual as he continued to fire the pistol. After approximately ½ hour the individual was taken into custody after it was discovered that he had shot himself.
The male was initially treated on the scene by deputies for a gunshot wound to the chest before the arrival of emergency medical services. He was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. As of now there is no update on his medical condition.
No rounds were fired by Macon County Deputies or any of the other responding agencies which included Decatur Police Department and Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
