The head of elections in the state of Illinois is on leave as the State Police look into an online extortion attempt. The Illinois State Board of Elections yesterday approved an extended leave for Steve Sandvoss. No one is saying just what the extortion attempt involves, but investigators say it’s similar to other common online scams. ISBE is making it clear they do not think any election information was compromised.
