One year ago, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced his order to close restaurants and bars to indoor service for two weeks, saying the effort was meant to slow the spread of the virus. The orders were extended with a statewide stay-at-home edict less than a week later. That lasted for more than two months. While the restrictions have evolved, the governor’s orders still have restaurants at 50 percent capacity. The state has lost more than 500,000 jobs over the past year.
