Many small central Illinois towns may soon raise utility bills in response to recent increases in natural gas prices. Towns are having trouble paying their gas bills after an arctic blast several weeks ago sent natural gas prices skyrocketing. Pawnee is facing an almost 560-thousand dollar gas bill for the whole town. A normal monthly bill is approximately 94-thousand. Pawnee and other villages are looking to add several dollars a month to residents’ utility bills to offset the unexpected costs.
