Governor J.B. Pritzker is extending Illinois’ eviction moratorium with clarifications. The new executive order prevents landlords from taking legal action against tenants who notify them of their inability to pay and who meet certain criteria. The tenants must submit a written declaration saying they can’t pay rent because of the pandemic and that they would be homeless if evicted. Renters must also meet income requirements to be eligible. The new order also extends the period of time that renters can submit a written declaration on a form provided by the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
