Mattoon school leaders and teachers are launching new programs to help students catch up following months of remote learning. Leaders are implementing Power Hour at the beginning of each day so teachers can focus on getting students up to speed in reading and math. Stretch Time starts after school and focuses on helping high risk students with both academic and social-emotional needs. About 270 students are participating in the afterschool program. Students returned last Thursday for their first full day of in-person instruction this semester.
