A federal district court is not dismissing a class action lawsuit against the Illinois Department of Corrections over its treatment of transgender prisoners. The case originated in 2018, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois on behalf of five transgender women IDOC custody who claim they have faced delays and denial of basic medical treatment. An injunction in 2019 required IDOC to reform its policies dealing with transgender inmates. The case is continuing through the court system.
