A record 15 billion dollars is invested in Illinois’ College Savings programs. Treasurer Mike Frerichs says his office is home to 733 thousand Bright Start and Bright Directions accounts worth 15 billion dollars. Anyone can open a college savings account, whether it be for your child, grandchild, niece or nephew. The money can be used for tuition, books, room and board and more.
