Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider says he intends to step down. Schneider began as chairman in May 2014, chosen by then-governor candidate Bruce Rauner. The news surprised some after the GOP successfully led the charge to defeat Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker’s proposed graduated income tax. But, Rauner’s 2018 defeat left Illinois in Democratic hands and Schneider with waning support.
