The number of people injured or killed in crashes where the driver should have followed Scott’s Law and moved over is down for the year. In 2019, 25 squad cars were hit when driver’s didn’t move over, and Trooper Brooke Jones-Story was killed while inspecting a semi on U.S.-20 near Freeport. So far this year, only 15 squad cars have been hit and no troopers have been killed. Two troopers received “incapacitating injuries.” Officials cite the fact that fewer cars are on the road because of the pandemic as a contributing factor to the drop.
