Illinois’ largest teachers’ union says the coronavirus could drive teachers out of the classroom. The Illinois Education Association released a survey Wednesday that says a quarter of teachers in the state have either thought about quitting or retiring this year. The union’s Kathi Griffin says the survey shows just how challenging this year has been for teachers. There are no numbers in the survey about how many teachers want to return to the classroom like normal. Griffin says the union has concerns about going back to class safely.
