A Chicago native will become the first Black cardinal in the United States. Wilton Gregory was one of 13 new Cardinals named by Pope Francis Sunday. The Archbishop of Washington was born in Chicago and ordained a priest in 1973. After serving as a parish priest in Chicago, he was ordained an auxiliary bishop of the city in 1983. The 72-year-old was installed as the bishop of Belleville, Illinois in 1994. He also served as the archbishop of Atlanta from 2005 until being named the archbishop of Washington D-C last year. Gregory will be installed as cardinal during a ceremony on November 28th.
