Columbus Day will look a lot different in Chicago. The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans announced that it will not hold its traditional downtown parade. The group plans to host a rally and car procession on Monday. The action takes place after questions about Christopher Columbus’ place in history and the removal of statues in his honor this summer in Chicago. For the first time, the second Monday in October will be marked as Indigenous People’s Day on the Chicago Public School’s calendar.
