Two controversial pieces of art have been removed from the Illinois Capitol grounds. Crews have removed statues of Stephan Douglas and Pierre Menard from the grounds yesterday. The removals come just three months after legislators called for the statue of Douglas to be taken down. Those who opposed the statue say Douglas owned slaves and had a loose stance on slavery. The Capitol Architect says the statues will be kept in secure storage off-site.
