Several Illinois officials are reacting to President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Republican U.S. Representative Darin LaHood called Barrett “an outstanding selection,” commenting on her strong understanding of the Constitution. Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth says she didn’t support Barrett’s nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals and won’t be supporting her now. Duckworth says the nomination is being rammed through before the election. Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are trying to rush the nomination through before the election and only a month-and-a-half before the Supreme Court hears a case to decide the future of the Affordable Care Act.
