Some Eastern Illinois University Students Upset By Homecoming Theme

Some Eastern Illinois University students are upset by the school’s Homecoming theme.  School officials say the theme of Party Like It’s 1895 refers to the year EIU was founded and its 125th anniversary being celebrated this year.  Some students say the theme is problematic because it calls back to a time when there was less inclusion in society for minorities, those with disabilities, and the LGBTQ communities.  The theme for the virtual event was chosen this spring following public and internal input.
