A stay in a contempt case is excusing Governor J.B. Pritzker from having to appear in Clay County Court. Pritzker was set to appear before the court Friday to answer a charge that he should be held in indirect civil contempt. Representative Darren Bailey filed a petition last week asking that Pritzker be held in contempt for allegedly violating a court order against issuing COVID-19-related executive orders. A filing by the Supreme Court yesterday requested that the state’s highest judiciary be able to decide the legal questions raised in the case.
