Twelve people are under arrest after police officers were injured during a protest near the Christopher Columbus statue over the weekend in Chicago.
Speaking at a briefing, Police Superintendent David Brown said almost 50 officers were injured Friday and 18 later hospitalized when a protest took a turn for the worse. Brown says one of those injuries was a sergeant who suffered a broken eye socket caused by a projectile thrown their way. Brown also says people could’ve died if the statue had come down. Brown said officers can no longer assume protests will be peaceful. That also means officers can wear necessary protective gear when protests happen in the Windy City.
