Several Chicago alderman are planning to introduce an ordinance today that would remove police officers from Chicago Public Schools. Alderman Roderick Sawyer, Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor and Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa are backing a measure that would require the Police Department to end its 33-million-dollar agreement with CPS. Mayor Lightfoot has said she opposes removing police from schools. The idea has gained traction among protesters and some elected officials around the country following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody last month.
