City Leaders, the Decatur Police Department, the NAACP, local Church Leaders and young people from the community held a roundtable discussion on race relations in the city of Decatur Thursday morning.
At a Thursday morning press conference, Mayor Moore-Wolfe said the meeting was spearheaded by Dr. Jeanelle Norman of the NAACP as a way to further open dialogue between the African-American community, the Decatur Police Department and the City. Dr. Norman said that they were able to gather information that they will use to create an action plan because at this time it’s important that “people stick together and make this community the best that it can be.”
Decatur Police Chief Jim Getz said it was important to get people together and listen to their concerns, gather ideas, knowing that everyone can always do better, move forward and it was a good opportunity for them to hear from people in the community they may not normally hear from.
Mayor Moore-Wolfe said today was just the beginning of ongoing discussion to help keep moving the community forward in a positive direction for everyone.
