Group Urging Council Members To Not Reappoint Urbana Police Chief

A group of activists is encouraging city leaders to not reappoint Urbana’s police chief.  The demand comes over a week after unrest started following the death of George Floyd while he was being detained by Minneapolis police.  A group called Stop Police Violence CU is also demanding that all charges be dropped against Aleyah Lewis.  Lewis faces aggravated battery charges after police say she resisted arrest and officers hit her.  The anti-violence group wants the investigation into the incident reopened.
