The Decatur Fire Department is seeking information from the public in what are considered to be suspicious fires in the city. Sunday night in to early Monday, fire crews handled 5 building fires and two 2nd alarm fires at the same time. Off-duty firefighters were called in, and reserve apparatus were placed in-service. Some of the county fire departments were brought into the city to help with coverage during the fires. 4 of the 5 fires are considered suspicious and under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
There were four more structure fires Monday night for a total of 11 over the course of 36-48 hours, where the Fire Department say they normally see 10-12 a month. The fires Monday night are considered suspicious as well and the Decatur Fire Department is asking if you have any information please contact them at 424-2811.
