The Macon County Board is rejecting the idea of furloughs for all county departments.
The board chairman’s proposal would have required all county employees to take ten unpaid furlough days between now and November 30th. The county is facing a shortfall of over a million dollars, and the resolution would have cut the deficit significantly. Board members also voted down planned raises for the county auditor, circuit clerk, recorder, and coroner, keeping their pay the same through 2024.
