Many small business are calling for a delay in the state minimum wage increase.
Illinois Chamber of Commerce CEO Todd Maisch says the focus needs to be on reducing costs so businesses can reopen and rehire employees after the shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic ends. Illinois’ minimum wage is set to go up by 75 cents in July. Any delay would have to go through the legislature and be signed off on by Governor Pritzker.
