Governor J.B. Pritzker plans to call for a “shelter-in-place” order. The order will shut down all non-essential business.
Going against the order could result in a misdemeanor, or even business losing their licences.
All essential business will be allowed to remain open, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, laundry businesses, gas stations, banks, health care services, and restaurants on the terms already set by the dine in ban and etc. Law enforcement, waste management, and utilities operations should all continue as normal as well.
Governor Pritzker stated on Thursday March 19 that grocery stores, highways, interstates, and gas stations would not be closing. That should still remain the case.
It is rumored that the order will take effect on Saturday, but the exact time is not known.
This is one of the heavier reactions any state has taken in trying to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, and mirrors the actions taken by California and their bay area
The official order and announcement should be made at 3:00 during Pritzker’s press conference. We will update the story as more info is made available.
