Officials Investigating Illness Linked to Rats in Illinois, Wisconsin

(Undated)  —  State health officials in Illinois and Wisconsin are investigating illnesses caused by a virus carried by Norway rats.  The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting six cases of the Seoul virus in people who had direct exposure to rats in two different breeding facilities in the state.  Two cases were reported in Wisconsin.  Symptoms for a person with the Seoul virus include fever, chills, nausea, intense headaches, and more.
