>>USC Rallies Past Penn State In Wild Rose Bowl Finish

(Pasadena, CA)  —  Matt Boermeester’s 46-yard field goal as time expired gave ninth-ranked USC a wild 52-49 win over fifth-ranked Penn State in the Rose Bowl.  Each team blew double-digit leads and the Trojans scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to rally for the dramatic win.

(Undated)  —  In other bowl games yesterday, Wisconsin ended Western Michigan’s bid for a perfect season with a 24-16 win in the Cotton Bowl.  Seventh-ranked Oklahoma ran over number-14 Auburn 35-19 in the Sugar Bowl, while 17th-ranked Florida hammered Iowa 30-3 in the Outback Bowl

>>Kiffin Relinquishes OC Duty To Sarkisian For Championship

(Tuscaloosa, AL)  —  Lane Kiffin will not be calling offensive plays for Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.  Kiffin is leaving to focus on his new job as head coach at Florida Atlantic.  Steve Sarkisian will serve as OC when the Crimson Tide clash with Clemson on Monday.

>>Broncos Head Coach Kubiak Steps Down

(Denver, CO)  —  Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak [[ KOO-bee-ack ]] is stepping down due to health reasons.  The announcement came yesterday after Denver wrapped up a 9-and-7 season.  He became just the fourth head coach in NFL history to lead a team to a Super Bowl victory in his first season last February.

>>Colts Head Coach Expects To Be Back

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  Colts head coach Chuck Pagano expects to be back next year in spite of the disappointing outcome to this season.  Pagano met with the media yesterday and when asked if he’d be returning for the 2017 season said “that’s the plan.”  The embattled head coach has yet to meet with owner Jim Irsay following the 8-and-8 finish.  Pagano is 48-and-31 in five seasons with the Colts.

>>Bulls Get By Hornets

(Chicago, IL)  —  Jimmy Butler’s 52 points led the Bulls to a 118-111 win over the Hornets in Chicago.  Butler is the eighth player to hit the 50-point mark in the NBA this season.  He also had 12 rebounds and six assists in last night’s win.

>>Blues Beat Blackhawks In Winter Classic
(St. Louis, MO)  —  Vladimir Tarasenko tallied twice 1:53 apart in the third period to propel the Blues to a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks in the Winter Classic at Busch Stadium.  Alexander Steen added an unassisted goal late in the third.  The game went off as planned despite concerns over weather conditions.
>>Illinois At 25th-Ranked Indiana Saturday

(Champaign, IL)  —  Illinois is off until Saturday when it plays at 25th-ranked Indiana.  The Illini beat Ohio State 75-70 on New Year’s Day to even their Big Ten record at 1-and-1.  Illinois has won seven-of-eight to improve to 11-and-4 on the season.  The 10-and-4 Hoosiers host 11th-ranked Wisconsin tonight.
