Nice Slate of Activities for July 4th in Decatur

The Decatur Park District has a lot of events on the docket for the big Independence Day celebration July 4 at Nelson Park. There will be many activities and events all day long in the Decatur area. The Staley Firecracker Road Walk/Run will kickoff the festivities in the morning at 8 a.m. followed by different activities all day at Nelson Park, Scovill Zoo and Fairview Park with times varying at each location. A 20 minute fireworks display over Lake Decatur starting around 9 p.m. will follow the B.O.S.S preview concert which starts at 5 p.m. No parking areas include Lost Bridge Road, Lake Shore Drive and Route 36. Lake Shore Drive in Nelson Park is permanently closed from the Rock Garden parking lot east to the Becker Underpass. For the safety of Independence Day patrons, the road closure on July 4 will include the roadway beginning at the Snack Shack.
