>>Nationals Smoke White Sox


(Chicago, IL)  —  Anthony Rendon homered and plated three as the Nationals smoked the White Sox, 10-5.  Todd Frazier slugged a two-run homer for Chicago, which dropped to 29-and-29.  Mat Latos didn’t make it out of the fifth after allowing six runs.  He fell to 6-and-2.


>>Phils Cut Down Cubs


(Philadelphia, PA)  —  The Cubs suffered a 3-2 loss to the Phillies last night in Philadelphia.  Kyle Hendricks struck out six, but allowed two runs in five innings to fall to 4-and-5.  Dexter Fowler plated a run for Chicago, which dropped to 40-and-17.


>>Soler Lands On DL


(Philadelphia, PA)  —  Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler will be out of action for the foreseeable future.  Soler has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a hamstring strain.  Chicago called up Albert Almora from Triple-A Iowa to fill Soler’s spot on the roster.


>>Reds’ Votto Walks-Off Cards


(Cincinnati, OH)  —  Joey Votto hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Reds a 7-6 win over the Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.  Cincinnati had blown a 6-1 lead, giving up three runs in the eighth and two in the top of the ninth in the opener of the three-game series.  Kevin Siegrist took the loss after giving up Votto’s homer.  Matt Carpenter tied the game with a two-run double.


>>Bench-Clearing Brawl Breaks Out In Royals-O’s Game


(Baltimore, MD)  —  Punches were thrown and benches emptied during last night’s Royals-Orioles game.  O’s shortstop Manny Machado charged and punched Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura after being plunked with a 99 mile-an-hour fastball in the back in the fifth inning.  Both were ejected after the melee.


>>U.S. Clobbers Costa Rica


(Chicago, IL)  —  The U.S. men’s national team clobbered Costa Rica, 4-0, in Copa America play in Chicago.  Despite losing its opener last Friday, Team USA can secure a spot in the quarterfinals with a victory over Paraguay in Philadelphia on Saturday.


>>Tiger Woods Announces He’ll Miss U.S. Open


(Undated)  —  Tiger Woods says he’s not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open.  The 14-time major champion says he’s making progress but is still continuing to recover from his third back procedure.  Woods hasn’t played in a PGA event since last August.


>>Cavs Host Game Three Of NBA Finals


(Cleveland, OH)  —  The Cavaliers will try to climb back into the NBA Finals when they host the Warriors in Game Three tonight.  Golden State has a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven set after winning the first two games at home by a combined 48 points.


>>Goodell Makes Light Of Death Tweet


(Undated)  —  NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is making light of a tweet that claimed he was dead.  The NFL’s Twitter account was briefly hacked with a message that Goodell had passed away at age 57.  Goodell spent the day attending a charity golf outing and auction run by Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.
