(Galesburg, IL) — A Galesburg man may have had a live grenade in his basement for over 70 years. Galesburg police say they got a call about the grenade yesterday. Once they realized that the grenade was still live, they called-in Peoria’s bomb squad. Officers were able to destroy the grenade at the police department’s shooting range. Galesburg police say the man’s family found the grenade after he passed away recently. The man was a World War Two veteran, and officers say he likely kept the grenade as a souvenir.
