Bulls Rally Past Timberwolves
(Chicago, IL) — Zach LaVine sank three free-throws in the waning seconds to lift the Bulls past the Timberwolves 114-113 in Chicago. LaVine was fouled by Minnesota’s Jimmy Butler while shooting a three to set up the game-winning foul shots with 18-seconds left. LaVine finished with 35 points against his former club and Butler poured in 38 in his return to Chicago. The Bulls rallied from a 11-point halftime deficit to snap a seven-game slide. Andrew Wiggins pitched in 18 points and Karl-Anthony Towns scored 14 with 10 rebounds for the T-Wolves. Minnesota has dropped two in a row and fell to 34-and-24 overall.
Blues Soar Past Jets
(Winnipeg, Manitoba) — Vladimir Tarasenko scored a pair of goals as the Blues cruised past the Jets 5-2 in Winnipeg. Patrik Berglund, Alexander Steen, and Jaden Schwartz also found the back of the net for St. Louis. Schwartz and Steen added assists as the Blues won for the third time in four game. Jake Allen made 20 saves in the winning effort. Kyle Connor and Patrick Laine tallied the Jets goals as they failed to earn a point for the first time in the last nine games. Connor Hellebuyck gave up four goals on 26 shots in defeat.
Women’s Hockey Starts, U.S. Plays Tomorrow
(PyeongChang, South Korea) — The women’s hockey tournament is underway, but the U.S. doesn’t play its first game until tomorrow. Team USA will open up against Finland in preliminary-round play. The Americans have medaled every Olympics since women’s hockey first debuted in 1998. The U.S. took silver four years ago in Sochi.
Gerard Advances To Big Final In Slopestyle Qualifying
(PyeongChang, South Korea) — American Red Gerard is safely through the qualifying round in men’s slopestyle snowboarding. He finished fourth overall behind Max Parrot and Mark McMorris of Canada, and Marcus Kleveland of Norway. Americans Chris Corning, Kyle Mack and Ryan Stassel did not make the cut. The final is at 8 p.m. Eastern.
