(Chicago, IL) — While some Illinois schools can go a year without state help, there’s a fear that a tiny handful can’t. Moody’s Investors Service yesterday said between five and 20 schools in the state will run out of cash reserves and have to look to borrow money in a matter of months. Moody’s said most of the schools that it looks at have the means to pay for the entire school year without state help. Illinois was supposed to send a state aid payment last week, but lawmakers at the Capitol are still haggling over the mechanics of the latest plan to pay for schools in the state.
