Veterans and their guests are invited to a free breakfast next week in Mt. Zion.
The fourth annual Central Cremation Center Veterans Appreciation Breakfast will take place Thursday, November 5, at the Mt. Zion Convention Center. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast beginning at 9.
The event honors veterans who served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard.
Central Cremation Center Public Relations Director Brett Zerfowski says the goal is to continue honoring and supporting those who have served the country.
The event has grown since it began in 2023, when about 40 people attended and four sponsors took part. Last year, attendance reached around 100, with sponsorships more than tripling from the inaugural event.
This year’s breakfast will feature patriotic piano music by Julie McClarey-Smith, along with the national anthem performed by the Mt. Zion High School show choirs Les Femmes and Swingsations, directed by Christina Cawthon.
Comfort dogs from Paw Print Ministries will also attend to introduce guests to the nonprofit organization. Veterans can visit with local service providers at sponsor tables, and raffle prizes from area businesses will be given away. Del’s Popcorn Shop in downtown Decatur will also provide a treat for attending veterans.
Tanglewood Village in Decatur is donating this year’s breakfast, while Big Hungry’s Daylight Donuts will provide coffee and donuts.
Veterans who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by calling Central Cremation Center at 217-859-8100. Each veteran may bring one guest.
