A new housing development is opening in Champaign County for residents facing some of the toughest barriers to stable shelter. The Illinois Housing Development Authority says Hope Village is a 9-point-6-million-dollar project with 24 homes for people who are chronically unhoused and medically fragile. State taxpayers contributed 7 million dollars, while Carle Health and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign provided 2 million dollars in grants. Residents are referred through the Champaign-Urbana Coordinated Entry System and must earn no more than 30 percent of the area median income. Rent for all 24 homes will be subsidized through Housing Authority vouchers.
