Decatur residents in select neighborhoods will soon have a free way to clear out unwanted items. The city is launching a neighborhood cleanup program, allowing people to place approved items at the curb during scheduled pickup times. City crews will then remove the items safely, helping keep neighborhoods cleaner and reducing illegal dumping. The program is not citywide yet and will only serve specific areas for now. Residents included in the cleanup schedule will receive a notice by mail with their assigned pickup dates and a list of what can and cannot be discarded. Officials say residents should wait for that notice before placing items outside.
