DECATUR, Ill. — The IHSA Class 1A boys soccer postseason got underway over the weekend, with St. Teresa and Riverton advancing to regional semifinal action following victories in their opening-round matchups.
St. Teresa delivered one of the weekend’s most impressive performances, cruising to a 9-0 victory over Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Friday in Decatur.
The victory marked the Bulldogs’ largest margin of victory this season and continued a stretch of postseason success for the program.
St. Teresa is looking to capture its first regional championship since 2018, when the Bulldogs put together one of the most successful seasons in program history.
That season, St. Teresa claimed regional, sectional and super-sectional championships before finishing third in the IHSA Class 1A State Tournament.
The seventh-seeded Bulldogs will look to take another step toward a regional title when they face second-seeded Monticello on Monday, October 19, at 4 p.m. in the Monticello Regional semifinals.
Riverton also had reason to celebrate over the weekend, earning a 2-0 shutout victory over Illinois School for the Deaf on Saturday.
The victory marked the Riverton co-op’s first postseason win since 2023, when the Hawks defeated Mt. Pulaski 9-0 in their opening-round matchup.
The eighth-seeded Hawks will now face top-seeded Williamsville, a program that has captured back-to-back Class 1A sectional championships.
That regional semifinal matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, at 4 p.m. in Riverton.
Elsewhere around the area, several programs wrapped up their 2026 seasons in regional quarterfinal action.
Pana fell 7-0 to Piasa Southwestern on Friday. The Panthers entered the postseason having won their opening playoff game in each of the previous three seasons.
Blue Ridge dropped a 7-1 decision to Illinois Valley Central in Chillicothe, while Mt. Pulaski fell 11-0 to Rochester.
Taylorville rounded out the weekend’s area results, falling 9-0 to North Mac on Saturday in Virden. The Tornadoes were competing in the Class 1A postseason after spending the previous three seasons in Class 2A.
With the opening weekend complete, St. Teresa and Riverton remain alive in the postseason, with both programs looking to build on their victories and advance to regional championship matches later this week.
