Roughly 700-thousand Illinois residents are seeing major financial relief after the state erased more than one-point-four billion dollars in medical debt. The Pritzker administration says the relief comes through Illinois’ medical debt-relief investment program, aimed at helping residents burdened by unpaid health care bills. On average, each impacted resident received more than 12-hundred dollars in debt elimination. Governor J.B. Pritzker says more than 300-million dollars of the total has been wiped out since February alone. State officials say the effort is designed to reduce financial stress and help families move forward without lingering medical debt.
