Illinois youth hunters have set a new state deer harvest record. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reports a preliminary total of 4,852 deer taken during youth season, held October 10th through October 12th. That tops the previous record of 4,714 deer, set in 2025. Randolph County led the state with 278 deer harvested, followed by Jefferson County with 166 and Pike County with 150. The youth season gives young hunters an early opportunity in the field while supporting wildlife management goals across Illinois. Final harvest numbers may be updated as reports are reviewed.
