Visitors to Lake Shelbyville can now pay boat launch and day use fees using QR codes at six boat ramps.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the new system allows visitors to purchase passes through Recreation.gov by scanning a QR code posted at the recreation area.
The change applies to these boat ramps:
- Lithia Springs
- Forrest W. “Bo” Wood
- Wilborn Creek
- Lone Point
- Coon Creek
- Opossum Creek
A day use pass costs $5. Visitors can scan the posted QR code with their smartphone, follow the instructions and complete their payment online. Park rangers will verify payments using the vehicle license plate number entered during purchase.
Passes can also be purchased up to 30 days in advance through the Recreation.gov website or mobile app, or by calling 1-877-444-6777.
Visitors with a properly displayed U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Annual Pass or America the Beautiful pass can continue using those passes to cover applicable fees. Annual passes are available at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Corps says the new system is designed to improve efficiency and make fee collection easier for visitors.
